Hair removal - Clarity II

Clarity II is an advanced, dual-wavelength laser system manufactured by Lutronic. It's designed for fast, effective, and safe permanent hair reduction, as well as other aesthetic treatments. It uses two primary laser wavelengths, Alexandrite (755nm) and Nd:YAG (1064nm), to treat a wide range of skin types and hair colors.

The Clarity II laser emits concentrated light energy that is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in your hair follicles. This light energy converts to heat, which then damages the follicle and inhibits its ability to grow new hair. Over several sessions, this leads to significant and lasting hair reduction.

Clarity II is highly versatile. Its dual-wavelength system means it can effectively and safely treat a broad spectrum of skin types, from very fair (Fitzpatrick I) to very dark (Fitzpatrick VI). The Alexandrite wavelength is ideal for lighter skin types, while the Nd:YAG wavelength is safer for darker skin types. However, like all lasers, it works best on hair with pigment; it is generally not effective on very light blonde, red, gray, or white hair, as these lack sufficient melanin for the laser to target.

The number of sessions varies depending on individual factors such as hair density, hair growth cycles, skin type, and the area being treated. Most clients typically require 6-8 or more sessions, spaced approximately 4-8 weeks apart, to achieve optimal, long-term hair reduction. This is because the laser is most effective on hairs in their active growth (anagen) phase, and not all hairs are in this phase at the same time.

Most clients describe the sensation as tolerable, like a rubber band snapping against the skin. Clarity II incorporates advanced cooling mechanisms (often an integrated air cooling system or cryogen spray) that work to cool the skin before, during, and after each laser pulse, significantly enhancing comfort. The discomfort level can also depend on the area being treated and individual pain tolerance.

Clarity II is known for its speed. Thanks to large spot sizes and its unique IntelliTrak™ technology (which ensures consistent energy delivery even at high speeds), treatment times are significantly reduced compared to older laser systems. A small area like the upper lip might take only a few minutes, while larger areas like full legs or a back can be completed in 20-30 minutes or less.

Laser hair removal, including Clarity II, is considered permanent hair reduction. While it significantly reduces the number of growing hairs and often results in permanent removal of individual treated follicles, it's unrealistic to expect 100% of hair to be gone forever. Some fine, light hairs may remain, and hormonal changes can sometimes stimulate new hair growth. Maintenance sessions may be desired occasionally over time.
